Patio Furniture Repair: How To Fix Your Aluminum Patio Chairs
Metal lawn chairs are a popular patio item. Facing the elements day after day, they’re very likely to get bent out of shape. If your biggest patio furniture repair woe is your aluminum chairs, read on to discover how to repair them in a pinch.
Step 1: Purchase a replacement sling
Get started by taking the exact measurements of your chair, so you can buy an appropriately sized replacement sling. Measure the width by running a tape measure from rail to rail (generally found at the top and the bottom of the sling). Measure its length with a cloth tape running along the top of one of the rails to the bottom.
Step 2: Remove the sling
Use a utility knife to cut the current sling down the middle and remove it from each rail. Remove the two halves of the sling from the tracks in the rails. Pop the spreader bar by loosening the bolts (don’t remove them) that keep the chair frame attached to its rails.
Step 3: Repaint the frame
If you want to spruce up the chairs or give them a burst of color, this is the optimum time to repaint or retouch the frame. Our team at OC Handycrew Services is happy to help!
Step 4: Replace the sling
Begin by removing one of the rails. With the hem side of sling to the back, slide the nylon rod into the rail track that’s attached to the frame of the chair.
Step 5: Secure everything in place
The new sling is secured by sliding the rail you previously detached over the nylon rod. Lock the rail back into place. Tighten all loose bolts and make sure the sling is pulled taut.
