Good News About Bathroom Remodels

Home renovations are on the rise across the country. In fact, studies show that in 2012 Americans spent more than 120 billion dollars on renovation and repair projects in their homes.

One of the most popular rooms for remodeling is often the bathroom. Making simple changes cannot only make your bathroom more efficient, modern looking and comfortable, it can also yield dividends in the long run.

A new book out from the real estate website Zillow, The New Rules of Real Estate, says that a $3,000 mid-range bathroom remodel can result in a $1.71 increase in home value for every $1 spent on the renovation.

So just what does a mid-range bathroom remodel entail? Here are some suggestions for some of the most popular bathroom remodel projects that yield maximum rewards.

Low Flow is the Way To Go

If your home was constructed before 1980 and you haven’t updated the toilets, then it’s likely they aren’t the most water saving that they can be. Low flow toilets can save the typical family as much as 20,000 gallons of water each year.  Not only are low flow toilets better for the environment, they can also shave money off your monthly water bill.

Double is Twice As Good

Another popular bathroom change is to swap out a single sink and vanity for a double sink and vanity. This can create much-needed storage space underneath the sink, and can also do wonders for a family that only has one bathroom and many people sharing it. Changing out a double sink can also give you the chance to add decorative additions like new mirrors above the sink or new cabinet hardware.

Fix It Up With New Fixtures

Replacing dated bathroom fixtures for more modern fixtures is one of the easiest changes you can make to update the look of a bathroom. Think about not only changing out the hardware on bathroom cabinets, but also adding new shower curtain rods, towel hooks and toilet tank levers.

Wall Paper

If you really want to make a noticeable change in your bathroom than adding wallpaper might be just the solution you are looking for. There are so many different designs of wallpaper now, from photographic-quality floral prints, to wallpaper that looks like tile, to marble inspired wallpaper.  Just make sure your bathroom has a fan or proper ventilation system so it doesn’t get to humid.

And, if you ever need any help with your bathroom remodel projects, think about calling a professional handyman to help.
